A blowout preventer closes the well if formation pressure enters the borehole. Ram preventers are what the photographs show.
The blowout preventer is the valve stack that lets the crew shut the well in. An annular preventer has an elastomer element that can close on a range of pipe sizes, on a kelly, or on open hole. A ram preventer is built for a defined job: pipe rams seal around one pipe size, blind rams close on an empty hole, and shear rams are made to cut pipe and then seal. The photographs on this page are ram-type preventers. We will not call a ram body an annular.
A well-control package often includes the stack, the choke and kill manifold, and the accumulator that stores the hydraulic pressure to close the preventers. API Spec 16A is the usual specification for the preventers themselves, and API Spec 16C for the choke and kill equipment, when the customer names those standards. The order states bore, working pressure, ram types, flange or hub connection, and whether the manifold and the control unit are in the same enquiry.

A performance figure is published only when a datasheet is attached.
