Valves isolate, throttle or stop reverse flow in refinery and crude-handling lines. Piping and fittings join them.
A crude unit and the lines around a tank farm are mostly pipe, flanges and valves. A gate valve isolates. A globe valve throttles. A check valve stops reverse flow. A ball valve isolates with a quarter turn. Which of those is required is a process decision, and so is the material, the size and the pressure class. When the customer names them, gate valves for refinery service are often API 600, pipeline valves API 6D, and the pressure-temperature rating ASME B16.34.
The photograph is insulated process piping with handwheel valves. It shows the kind of installation. It is not a claim about the class or the alloy of those particular valves. The quotation follows the line list: size, class, end connection, material, trim and the standard.
Centrifugal pumps that move crude into the unit are quoted to API 610 when that standard is specified. A pump photograph is not on this page.
